Introduction to Becker Muscular Dystrophy
BMD was first described in 1956 and like Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) it causes muscle weakness (usually in males) which progresses over time. It has a milder phenotype than DMD as there is some dystrophin still present in the muscles. It can also impact heart and respiratory muscles which can lead to life threatening issues.
