Orthopaedic Management

The role of the orthopaedic surgeon in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders involves making the decision regarding surgical interventions. Therefore, orthopaedic management is embedded in a multidisciplinary approach of the problems in the upper and lower limbs and spine. In the early stages of the disease this mostly includes physiotherapy, orthotics and environmental adaptation and it is only in the more progressive stages that surgical interventions may be warranted.
In this section we will detail some of the orthotic and physiotherapy management in neuromuscular disorders.
