Support for Sitting

When choosing the best support for sitting, be clear as to the purpose of that sitting support. Is it active sitting or passive sitting that is required? Is there deformity of the back? Can the trunk still be corrected?
A weak trunk can be supported by a brace or seating shell depending how active they are. In general, a slightly tilted position of the pelvis is recommended.
Several instruments exist to evaluate children’s sitting capacities and these can be used to make seating choices. More seating options which give support are appearing on the market such as a seating shell with lateral supports. It is important to consider pressure and pain and restriction of mobility.
