Advice on Clothing
In 2019, Sheila became a full-time wheelchair user and began navigating the world from a new perspective. This included identifying which clothing was practical for use in a wheelchair, ensuring enough movement for transferring between seats, staying warm despite reduced physical activity, and maintaining the ability to present herself as a full and active member of society. As she worked through this process—adapting both her wardrobe and individual garments—she realized these challenges were likely not unique to her and began to wonder if anyone was addressing them. Around the same time, Sheila was studying for an HND in Fashion and Footwear Design at Leicester College, where she gained deeper insights into the fashion industry and its workings. This paper explores the issues she encountered with accessible clothing and the conclusions she reached through this journey.
