Adapted Test of Neuromuscular Disorders (ATEND)
Measurement framework:
Clinician rated outcome. This is a novel assessment in the pilot phase, which is suitable for children and adults with SMA who are no longer able to sit, or who have never been able to sit. The test includes 14 items which are assessed in the wheelchair. There are two testing positions: 1 – in a semi-reclined position and 2 – in a supported sitting position. Some of the items are adapted from the CHOP-INTEND. It is included here as although it is not fully validated, it fills an important gap in our assessment of SMA.
ICF Domain:
Activity
Suitable for:
SMA Non-ambulatory / non-sitter or only minimal sitting ability. For subjects who are too long / heavy to perform the CHOP-INTEND on.
Level of function:
Non-sitters.
Clinical application:
A manual and a guide to assessment in adults is available here. It is useful in the weakest group of older SMA subjects who are unable to score much on the RULM, are too weak for the RHS and too large for the CHOP-INTEND.
