Limitations in arm activities can lead to a decrease in participation.  For this reason, many supportive devices have been developed. The choice of which type of arm support depends on the remaining strength of the shoulder and arm. The active range of motion is a good predictor for functional ability. The use of arm supports can prevent disuse and can reduce the extent of the help needed, however significant technical assessment and support is needed for individuals and families operating these devices.
